Medica is proud to announce that our joint initiative with xWave and the HSE, Connected Care: Integrating Clinical Decision Support into GP Radiology Referral Workflows, has been shortlisted for the Best Collaboration Project at the Private Healthcare Awards 2025.
Launched in November 2024, at Medica Ireland’s Arklow Primary Care Centre, the pilot aimed to improve the quality and efficiency of X-ray and ultrasound referrals in primary care. By integrating xWave’s Clinical Decision Support System (CDSS) into the Socrates GP software, the project enabled GPs to submit more appropriate, complete, and clinically guided referrals.
The initiative involved six general practices using the Clanwilliam software and was supported by the HSE. Key outcomes included:
- A 96% appropriateness rate for referrals, aligned with iRefer clinical guidelines
- Streamlined triage and reduced administrative delays
- Enhanced communication between GPs, radiologists and admin teams
- A scalable model for national adoption
Feedback from clinical and administrative staff highlighted the system’s ease of use and it’s impact on improving patient access to timely and appropriate imaging. This recognition reflects our commitment to innovation, collaboration and improving healthcare delivery. We are incredibly thankful to everyone who contributed to this project, especially the participating GPs, the HSE, and our dedicated teams in Medica and xWave respectively.
